One cannot miss that most horror stories about credit cards surround Chase. Maybe they are one of the largest credit card companies but that does not release them from their responsibilities to be fair and treat their customers with some respect. One does not have far than to search for Chase Credit Cards online and hit hundreds of forums dedicated to Chase horror stories. I would recommend that NO ONE sign up with a credit card through CHASE. They are the worst company I have ever dealt with. I have excellent credit and have never had issues like what I have experienced recently with CHASE. Previously I was through WAMU but after CHASE absorbed the company everything went downhill. It started with a huge increase in my APR, now I've been charged a late fee they refuse to reverse as they tell me the due date can vary. Instead of paying the 28th (like I have every month for the years I've had the card) it was apparently due the 26th. I have always paid on time, every month, above the minimum. My husband and I have a new baby and things are so tight, but we are going to do everything we can to pay this damn card off this month. SCREW CHASE!
I am sorry to hear your experience of Chase at its best... Now in terms of calculating the daily balance and incoming charges, note that congress had to include guidelines in the reform bill. All the banks, take the largest debit out first and then all the rest. What Chase did to maximize their overdraft windfall is also practiced by other banks that I know, ie. Wells Fargo. This is why Congress added a provision in their bill to enforce that debits are made in proper order not the banks choice.
BOTTOM LINE, stop giving the banks business and start paying cash. Debit cards are the worst. First the banks collect from the merchants 1 - 1.5% and then use them to charge you $35 for charging a few dollars on them.
